What is Career Development & Placement Division (CDPD)?

Career Development & Placement Division engages students in the career development process of exploring career options, identifying interest, gaining experience in a chosen field, preparing for the job, preparing for facing interview and achieving the career goals. For this purpose we offer a variety of programs, trainings and resources that will prepare you to succeed in your career. 

The CDPD at JGLS runs a robust career mentoring and counselling program that comprises of JGLS faculty members from various walks of practice, helping students in appreciating different career paths and choosing the right one for them. JGLS has entered into multiple MoUs and collaborations facilitate internships and placements for JGLS students and graduates. JGLS also has extensive ties within government, businesses, and civil society, which are used to assist in placing our students and graduates. Whatever one’s plans are after graduation our Career Development Services is there to help.

The various career development efforts led by CDPD include workshops, guest lectures, industry talks, field visits to recruiters’ workplaces that sharpen students’ résumé writing skills, communication and interpersonal skills, presentation skills, industry intelligence, and help in gaining access to a variety of career opportunities that lie ahead of law graduates. These programs are run by CDPD throughout the year to benefit students at different stages of their law school, starting from the first year, up to providing training and career opportunities to the JGLS alumni.

  • JGLS Committee of International Lawyers (J-CIL), a New York based association of practising lawyers from leading law firms worldwide, are committed to helping JGLS provide advice and career counseling for students and graduates.
     

National and International Internships

The Career Development & Placement Division (CDPD) at JGLS requires and assists students in pursuing at least one 4-week internship during each of their term-break during summer and winter. Such internships are pursued by our students in a variety of organizations and institutions both within and outside the justice administration system. The internship program at JGLS is designed and administered with a vision of broadening the horizon of career opportunities that students are able to seek post completion their of legal education, ensuring that all the students can leverage on the internship program towards fulfilling their diverse career aspirations. Students are guided from their first day at the law school to understand the kind of internships they should be working towards and hand-holding is provided in understanding nuts and bolts of securing and succeeding in such internships.

The CDPD also supports JGLS students in securing internships in their home towns and various cities around India through large database of recruiter contacts regularly maintained to ensure availability of diverse internships to cater to each students’ specific needs and requirements. JGLS students also receive mentorship in building their recruiter contacts and developing necessary soft and hard skills by becoming student representatives at CDPD, thereby gaining an edge in furthering their career objectives.

  • Internships in India at offices of top lawfirms,in-houselegaldepartments at Indian and global corporates, start-ups, Indian and international NGOs, UN bodies, statutory bodies, research organizations, chambers of standing counsels, independent lawyers in various states and Judicial Clerkships in High Courts and the Supreme Court.
